BOB YOUNG has worked in the music and entertainment business for over forty years. From 1968, for thirteen years, he was on the road with the band Status Quo on their Continual World Tour as tour-manager, harmonica player and co-song writer of dozens of their greatest hits and continues to write with Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt ( www.statusquo.co.uk ).
Over the years he’s toured the world many times with various and diverse artists including The Verve’s Richard Ashcroft, Vanessa-Mae and Hank Marvin.
He has written several music related books (see the Books page on this site), jingles for television ads (including Levi Jeans) and songs for various artists. He also co-wrote and produced a major, award winning TV documentary on 40 years of the Fender Stratocaster guitar which featured many artists including Eric Clapton, George Harrison and Keith Richards.
With Whitesnake guitarist Micky Moody ( www.mickymoody.com ) he has written well over a hundred songs and recorded and released their acclaimed country/blues album ‘Young & Moody’. Together they also wrote their popular humorous dictionary ‘The Language Of Rock & Roll’. Micky also played guitar on Bob’s solo album ‘In Quo Country’ featuring some of the songs co-written for Status Quo and several of the UK’s finest musicians.
He was an original committee member of Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Charity ( www.nordoff-robbins.org.uk ) thirty-five years ago and has been a supporter and fundraiser ever since
He has organised major successful charity and benefit concerts including one at Liverpool Football Stadium in 1997 for the Hillsborough Families Support Group featuring The Lightning Seeds, Stereophonics, Manic Street Preachers and many more and in September 2005 the sell-out Strat Pack Concert at Wembley Arena in aid of Nordoff-Robbins with artists including David Gilmour, Ronnie Wood, Joe Walsh, Amy Winehouse amongst others.
He manages Irish singer/songwriter Joe Echo ( www.joeecho.com ) and for 25 years has also acted as a music industry consultant including twenty for the legendary Cavern Club in Liverpool. He is currently co-ordinating various activities around the Clubs 50th anniversary that includes a concert, a book and just recently the creation and release through EMI Records of the 50 tracks, triple album ‘The Cavern – The Most Famous Club In The World’ featuring fifty of the many artists to have played in the Club from The Beatles, Rolling Stones and Stevie Wonder to The Arctic Monkeys, Oasis and The Who ( www.cavernclub.org ).
