Wenn man erwarten würde, dass Status Quo im Tempo nachlassen würden, nach dem sie bald ein halbes Jahrhundert im Geschäft sind, man wäre sehr überrascht. Vom ersten Akkord an wurde mit einer ansteckenden Begeisterung für die alten „Jungs“ des Rocks durch die Nottingham Arena gefegt. Während man zu Hits wie „Down Down“ „In the army now“ oder „Rockin all over the world“ auf- und abhüpfte, schien der ganze Saal eine halb-professionelle Tanz-Choreografie anzunehmen. Einige spielten Luftgitarre und andere spielten mit aufblasbaren Gitarren – eine wurde gar auf die Bühne geworfen, die dann von einem Bandmitglied aufgehoben wurde, der damit selber Spass machte. Beeindruckend - die Band verwendete mindestens 10 (wirklich) Gitarren und eine endlose Anzahl von Trommelstöcken, von denen einige von Zeit zu Zeit über die Bühne rutschten. Unnötig zu sagen, dass Schlagzeuger Matt Letley einen grossen Applaus für sein Solo-Stück am Schlagzeug bekam.

Songs wie „Beginning of the end“ des neuen Albums „In search of the fourth chord“ wurden aber auch gespielt, denn danach verlangten die “Die-hards” . Der langjährige Erfolg scheint den Mannen von Status Quo nicht in den Kopf gestiegen zu sein, denn sie hörten nicht auf, zu plaudern, zu scherzen und sich gegenseitig zu necken. Offenbar lieben sie ihre Fans genauso wie die Fans die Band lieben und sie werden wohl noch viele Jahre „Rockin all over the world“, darauf wette ich.

If you expected Status Quo to be slowing down after nearly half a century in the business, you'd be surprised. From the first chord to the last, Nottingham Arena was swept with a contagious enthusiasm for the old boys of rock. While jumping around to hits like Down, Down, You're In The Army Now and Rocking All Over The World some people broke into semi-choreographed dance routines, some played air guitar and others played the inflatable guitar - one was thrown onto the stage where one band member picked it up to join in the fun. Impressively the band used at least ten (real) guitars and an infinite number of drum sticks, many of which at one point or another went flying across stage during the show. Needless to say, drummer Matt Letley, was given an ovation for his drum solo which included many of the said flying drum sticks. Songs such as The Beginning Of The End from the band's new album In Search Of The Fourth Chord are set to become long-lasting favourites among fans judging by the reaction to them. Their long standing success doesn't seem to have gone to their heads either. Even during songs, they interact with the crowd, stopping to chat, joke and tease. Clearly they love their fans as much as the fans love them and they'll be rocking all over the world for years to come, I bet.
